In the early hours of May 15, 2025, political prisoner Hafizeh Baluch Zehi, a 24-year-old Baloch woman, was secretly executed in a prison in Tehran. The execution was carried out under a total media blackout.
A native of Saravan, born in 2000, Hafizeh Baluch Zehi was hanged at 5 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Even after her death, the authorities failed to inform the family of her burial site.
The execution took place, without adhering to customary legal procedures such as official notification, the right to a final visit, or access to legal counsel. Neither the state media nor the judicial authorities have released any report or statement regarding her execution.
According to available identification documents, Hafizeh’s national ID number was 3750212463, issued in Nikshahr.
Hafizeh Baluch Zehi was arrested in 2022 on charges of allegedly cooperating with her brother, who is believed to have been in contact with opposition groups abroad. However, no information has ever been made public regarding her interrogation, trial, or defense. It remains unclear whether she had access to an independent lawyer or received a fair trial.
With the execution of Hafizeh Baluch Zehi, the number of women executed in Iran in 2025 has risen to seventeen.
According to data compiled by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), at least 280 women have been executed in Iran since 2007.
