May 27, 2025 - IRAN. 70th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign entered its 70th week. Inmates from Fardis Prison in Karaj have joined the campaign, reaching 45 prisons.

In this week’s statement, prisoners referred to the execution of 170 individuals during the Iranian month of Ordibehesht (April 21-May 21) and noted that 19 percent of those executed were Baluch inmates. They warned:

“This inhumane conduct by the dictatorial regime toward minorities and the people of Iran is a clear instance of crimes against humanity and a gross violation of human rights.”

The full text of the statement from the 70th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

With Fardis Prison in Karaj joining the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, the movement has now expanded to encompass 45 prisons during its 70th week

With deep regret and sorrow, the killing of inmates under the rule of tyranny has not ceased; rather, the figures for this “state-sanctioned madness of executing imprisoned citizens” continue to rise. In the month of Ordibehesht (April–May), the repressive apparatus under the Supreme Leader executed more than 170 of our fellow citizens—an unprecedented and terrifying number indicating that two prisoners were executed every nine hours in Iran. Sadly, about 19% of these executions were of our oppressed Baluch compatriots, who endure compounded injustice and discrimination.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign sincerely calls upon all human rights advocates and those who long for a free and equal Iran to stand with the victims of oppression during these difficult days and years. The ruling dictatorship, by violating fair trial rights and carrying out widespread executions, tramples on the “right to life” of ethnic and religious minorities, brazenly sending Baluch, Kurdish, Arab, and ideological prisoners to the gallows.

It is both necessary and praiseworthy that Iranian sympathizers—especially those with access to international platforms—raise the voice of the Iranian people’s cry of “No to Execution” and expose the regime’s killing spree to the world. This inhumane behavior by the dictatorial regime toward minorities and the Iranian people is a clear example of “crimes against humanity” and a flagrant breach of human rights.

Every execution in Iran carries political weight, not merely representing the punishment of a defendant, because every accused individual is a victim of the corrupt and dysfunctional ruling system. Furthermore, no fair judicial process exists within the regime’s judiciary and security apparatus. The main objective of these executions is to instill fear and prevent popular uprisings. As the crises in the country worsen, so do repression and executions.

Therefore, “silence is not the answer.” We must raise our voices and rise against this oppression and injustice. For weeks, families of political prisoners sentenced to death—along with youth and freedom-seeking citizens—have been raising their voices in front of prisons across the country and in cities around the world, chanting “No to Execution” and supporting the campaign.

In the same spirit, in an act of creative resistance, female prisoners participating in this campaign at Evin Prison gather every Tuesday during family protests to chant “No to Execution.”

This solidarity inside and outside prison is admirable. The slogan “No to Execution” deserves to echo through the streets and protest rallies of every social group.

We are pleased to announce that this week, a group of inmates from Fardis Prison in Karaj has joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in protest against the wave of executions and will go on a hunger strike.

Thus, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will continue in its 70th week across the following 45 prisons, in the form of a hunger strike: Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8),  Qezel-Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4),  Karaj Central Prison,  Greater Tehran Prison,  Khorein Varamin Prison,  Choobindar Qazvin Prison,  Arak Prison,  Khorramabad Prison,  Yasuj Prison,  Asadabad Isfahan Prison,  Dastgerd Isfahan Prison,  Sheiban Ahvaz Prison,  Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards),  Shiraz Nezam Prison,  Adel Abad Shiraz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards),  Zahedan Prison (Women’s Ward),  Borazjan Prison,  Ramhormoz Prison,  Behbahan Prison,  Bam Prison,  Kahnuj Prison,  Tabas Prison,  Mashhad Prison,  Gonbad-e Kavus Prison,  Qaemshahr Prison,  Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards),  Rudsar Prison,  Haviq Talesh Prison,  Azbarm Lahijan Prison,  Dizel Abad Kermanshah Prison,  Ardabil Prison,  Tabriz Prison,  Urmia Prison,  Salmas Prison,  Khoy Prison,  Naqadeh Prison,  Miandoab Prison,  Mahabad Prison,  Bukan Prison,  Saqqez Prison,  Baneh Prison,  Marivan Prison,  Sanandaj Prison,  Kamyaran Prison,  Fardis Prison in Karaj.
