Hrana recently published data on some executions carried out between October and December 2025. With these additions, the total number of executions in 2025 rises to 2,226.
In the first month of 2026, January, the total number of executions was 313.
The Kumamoto District Court on January 28, 2026 rejected a retrial request from the family of a man with leprosy who was executed more than 60 years ago for a 1952 murder despite long claiming his innocence.
