INDIA. THREE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER

the Kolkata high, India, confirmed the death sentences handed down to three people, Alok Nath Dutta, Mrinal Dutta and Shiv Shankar Roy, for killing a relative over a property dispute. A division bench comprising Justice Alok Basu and Justice P K Deb rejected the appeal of the three accused against a city court's 2003 judgment. The bench also confirmed the life imprisonment awarded to Mamata, Alok Nath Dutta's wife. They were all found guilty of murdering Biswanath Dutta, Alok Nath Dutta's elder brother. Biswanath was throttled to death on January 22, 1994 and his body was hidden in a wall in their house.
