the second fast track court in Cooch Behar, India, sentenced Nepal Mandal to death for raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl in 1999. Additional Sessions Judge Mr Somnath Banerjee handed down the sentence to Mandal of Pashchim Rampur village, Tufanganj.It was alleged that on 13 May 1999, Mandal asked Namita, the daughter of his neighbour, to accompany him to collect mangoes from a nearby tree. The girl left with Mandal but never returned.
