a court in Vijayawada awarded the death sentence to Yelchuri Manohar, convicted of killing his classmate Ravuri Srilakshmi with a butcher's knife in a classroom in their college.Pronouncing the sentence, Mahila Sessions Court judge M. Chalapathi Rao said Manohar deserved the noose for the brutal manner in which he had killed Srilakshmi on June 21, 2004. Rao said the accused was found guilty of murder, destroying evidence and harassment and was liable to be punished under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 27(1) of the Indian Arms Act and the AP Anti-Ragging Act. However, he was acquitted of charges of criminal conspiracy.
