INDIA: MAN GETS DEATH FOR RAPE & MURDER

District and Sessions Judge A M Vaidya, in Achalpur, Amravati district, India, sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a mentally-challenged minor girl. The convict’s wife too was found guilty of playing a role in the offence and was sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment. According to details, Shankar Kisan Khade of Asegaon Purna village, Achalpur tehsil, on Amravati-Paratwada road, was convicted by the court for raping a mentally-challenged 12 year old girl on June 21, 2006. Shankar and his wife Mala were also accused of abducting the victim from a weekly market of Lakhanwadi village in Chandur Bazar tehsil. On June 27, 2006, the girl’s body was found in a farm in Naigaon village.
