Judge M Pugazhendhi of the Fast Track Court in Virudhachalam, India, sentenced a 24 year old man to death for raping and murdering 13 women in the last seven years in the Villupuram and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu. Identified only as Ramesh, he also received 17 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. Ramesh, who lost his parents at the age of eight years, committed the first crime at the age of 17 years. After murdering girls that he had raped, he started murdering women for gains, the victims including Sivakozhundu, 50, and Thiruvachi Ammal, 60, in Villupuram and Cuddalore districts.
