Yakub Memon, the chartered accountant brother of prime accused Tiger Memon, was sentenced to death by the special TADA court hearing in India’s 1993 serial blasts case. This took the total number of those given capital punishment in the case to 12. Three others from the Memon family were given life sentences by Special Judge Pramod Kode. Yakub was found guilty of conspiracy and financing the serial blasts, and providing tickets to co-accused people who were sent to Pakistan via Dubai for training in arms and ammunition, as well as purchasing vehicles and using them in the blasts by planting explosives. He was also charged with possessing arms and ammunition and distributing them among the co-accused.(Sources: Times of India, 27/07/2007)
