Nigel Fernandez, 23, was sentenced to death and his twin brother, Truver Fernandez, given life imprisonment by a sessions court in Thiruvananthapuram, India, after being found guilty of murdering their 17-year-old niece. The two were convicted of murdering their brother's daughter Sandra at her house at Poungammodu on August 3, 2004. The twins had been looking after Sandra as her father was away in the Gulf at the time of the murder. According to the prosecution, Sandra was hacked to death by her uncles following a family dispute. Her younger brother and a woman servant who were at the house at the time were also injured. The two then went on the rampage smashing furniture and other articles before setting the building on fire.(Sources: Chennai Online, 13/12/2005)
