13 October 2004 :

Eight people convicted of drug trafficking were executed by firing squad this week in Vietnam, court officials and state-controlled media said.
Six people, including a woman, were executed in the central province of Ha Tinh after their pleas for clemency were rejected by President Tran Duc Luong, said provincial chief judge Nguyen Tri Tue.
Tue said the six were condemned to death in August 2003 after being convicted of trafficking 16.8 kilograms of heroin and 87 kilograms of opium from Laos into Vietnam.
Two other men sentenced to death in a separate trial were executed by a firing squad in Hanoi, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.
