BANGLADESH: 5 SENTENCED TO DEATH IN FARIDPUR EASY BIKE DRIVER MURDER CASE

A court in Faridpur sentenced five people to death and another to 10 years’ imprisonment in the murder case of easy bike driver Shaukat Mollya.
Each convict was also fined Tk 20,000, with a one-year rigorous imprisonment in default of payment.
The verdict was delivered on July 31, 2025 at 2 pm by Additional District and Sessions Judge Moksudur Rahman in the 1st court of Faridpur. Four of the death-row convicts were present in court, while one remains absconding.
Additional District and Sessions Judge 1st court’s public prosecutor Chowdhury Zahid Hasan Khokon confirmed the verdict.
The convicts sentenced to death are Md. Mehedi Abu Kawsar, Md. Joni Molla, Rajesh Robi Das, Md. Robin Molla alias Vicky from Faridpur Sadar upazila, and Md. Rasel Sheikh, who is currently absconding.
Another accused, Badsha Sheikh from Rajbari district, was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000, with 10 months’ rigorous imprisonment in default of payment.
According to the case details, on November 14, 2019, 20-year-old Shaukat Mollya went missing after leaving his home on an easy bike in the afternoon. His body was found the next morning near a paddy field by Bypass Road in the city’s Goalchamt Mollya Badi area. Later, Shaukat’s father, Ainal Sheikh, filed a murder case at Faridpur Kotwali police station.
Chowdhury Zahid Hasan Khokon said after a lengthy hearing and examination of evidence, the court handed down the death penalty and fines to five accused. The judge also ordered legal action including an arrest warrant against the absconding defendant.
He added, “We are satisfied with the highest possible verdict in this case.”
