an Indian local court in Jharkhand's Hazaribag sentenced two Maoists to death and two others to life imprisonment for killing 14 people on April 14, 2001 in the district.Kailash Sao and Birendra Sao alias Vidrohi were sentenced to death by the court, Chetlal Prajapati and Jagan Sao were sentenced to life imprisonment. Birendra played a key role in the killings and was at that time the self styled area commander of the Maoist Communist Center (MCC), now merged with the CPI (Maoist).
Police said they with other supporters went door to door looking for 'Gram Raksha Samittee' members who they took to a nearby field, slit their necks and decapitated them. All 42 witnesses produced by the police said that the rebels set the female members of their families on fire. The convicts claimed that they were falsely implicated the case.
