Amnesty International launched another campaign against the death penalty in Belarus. The global human rights watchdog suggests sending letters to Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka that would call on him to declare a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, in line with UN General Assembly Resolution 63/168, which was adopted in December 2008.(Sources: Belapan, 18/08/2009)
