a Madhya Pradesh court in India sentenced to death five people in connection with the murder of a family of seven.
The Bhind district sessions judge, Subodh Kumar Jain, sentenced to death Suresh Soni, Mahipal Singh Narbaria, Punjab Singh Narbari, Manikchand and Sonelal in the eight-year old case.
The five accused were charged with the murder of a constable of the Special Armed Force (SAF) of Madhya Pradesh police, Gulab Singh, and six others of his family in 1997. Singh's daughters were raped before being murdered.
Two of the accused, Sonelal and Manikchand, had already died. Mahipal Singh Narbaria, who had a long-standing dispute with Gulab Singh, had hired Sonelal, a person with a criminal history, to eliminate the family members in September 1997.
Four persons including a woman were acquitted in the case.
