A fast track court in India's Bharuch district town of south Gujarat sentenced to death Devi Singh Vasava for hacking a man to death. Fast track court judge P M Lakhani ordered that the convict be hanged till death and two others Kamlesh Dadu Vasava and Dawood Vavasa be given life imprisonment for killing one Bhudarbhai Vasava in 2003 following a personal rivalry. Lakhani ruled the murder to be of the 'rarest of rare' cases given that the victim was brutally killed in front of his wife and three children. According to prosecution, the incident occurred in Veeravadi village on February 11, 2003, when Devi Singh, his brother Kamlesh and cousin Dawood Vasava, barged into Bhudarbhai's house and hacked him to death with sharp weapons. After murdering him in front of his wife Kapila and three children including two daughters, the accused went on a looting spree in his house and then fled. The court also ordered the three convicts to pay Rs one lakh each as compensation to the victim's family.(Sources: web.mid-day.com, 27/08/2004)
