A Delhi Sessions Court sentenced to death a Pakistani terrorist, Maqsood Ahmed, alias Ashraf Abbu Mujahid, for attacking a police encampment in Jarodha Kalan on the outskirts of Delhi, killing a man and grievously injuring his colleague on the night of October 18, 2000.Terming his act as an act of "terrorism", Additional Sessions Judge J.M. Malik said in his judgement passed on May 18 that "in order to castrate the terrorists, capital punishment is called for".
His accomplice Abdullah Mir was acquitted by the court for lack of evidence. Mir had been accused of bringing militants to Delhi from Kashmir.
Ahmed, hailing from Naya Janawalan in Miyawali district in Pakistan, was found guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy under Indian Penal code and the Arms and Explosives Acts.
