a court in the central province of Quang Tri, Vietnam, handed down a death sentence to a 55-year-old businessman for trafficking over eight kilograms of heroin from Laos into Vietnam. At the hearing held by the Quang Tri People’s Court, Dau Xuan Duyen, a wood importer and exporter, said that between May and August last year he traveled to Laos where he bought the heroin, along with 4,000 tablets of synthetic drugs, from a man known only as Nang Thang. The drugs were hidden in wooden beds and delivered to Duyen, who also owned a hotel and restaurant, in Quang Tri. Duyen later would send the goods to Ho Chi Minh City to another man known as Dung, according to Duyen's testimony. According to the indictment, the businessman, was busted on August 25 last year when he received a wooden bed from a Laos-Vietnam bus in Dong Ha Town, Quang Tri. Local border guards found some 2.8 kilograms of heroin hidden in the bed.
