IRAN - ‘Protester’ Peyman Ganji sentenced to death

June 13, 2026:

June 13, 2026 - IRAN. ‘Protester’ Peyman Ganji sentenced to death

Ali Fattah and Mohammad Naqizadeh, two political prisoners, are being held in solitary confinement awaiting execution

Information received by Hengaw shows that Ali Fattah (also known as Ali Kamali) and Mohammad Naqizadeh, both detained during the January 2026 protests and previously held in Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh), were abruptly summoned by prison authorities on June 13, 2026, and transferred to quarantine and solitary confinement cells at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. With their death sentences having been upheld by Branch Nine of the Supreme Court, concerns have intensified over the imminent risk of execution.

Fattah, a 33-year-old resident of Malaysia, was arrested during the January protests in Tehran and later sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges of “waging war against God” (moharebeh).

Naqizadeh, a 25-year-old from Tehran, was arrested during protests on January 8 and 9, 2026. He was subsequently sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati, on charges of “sabb al-nabi” (insulting the Prophet).

The trials of both men were conducted behind closed doors. They were denied access to independent legal counsel and deprived of the guarantees of a fair trial throughout the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Peyman Ganji, a 33-year-old detainee arrested during the January 2026 protests and currently held in Greater Tehran Penitentiary, has been sentenced to death by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, also under Judge Iman Afshari.

According to information received by Hengaw, Ganji was convicted of “waging war against God” (moharebeh), with the court citing the alleged burning of public property during a protest gathering as the basis for the charge. His legal representative in the case is Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, the former Tehran prosecutor. The case has been referred to Branch Nine of the Supreme Court and remains under review.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights warns that Ali Fattah and Mohammad Naqizadeh face an imminent risk of execution at Ghezel Hesar Prison. Hengaw also condemns the death sentence imposed on Peyman Ganji and calls on the international community, Amnesty International, and human rights organizations worldwide to take urgent action to halt these political executions and overturn all death sentences imposed on protesters.
