SINGAPORE: MALAYSIAN MAN EXECUTED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

A Malaysian man convicted of trafficking a significant quantity of heroin was executed in Singapore on Feb. 11, 2026, according to an official statement issued by the Singapore authorities.
Lingkesvaran Rajendaren, 33, had been found guilty of trafficking not less than 52.77 grammes of diamorphine, also known as pure heroin.
Singapore law mandates the death penalty for cases involving more than 15 grams of the drug.
The authorities said the amount involved was enough to sustain the addiction of approximately 630 abusers for a week, highlighting the harm caused by large-scale drug trafficking.
Lingkesvaran was sentenced to death in October 2018, following his conviction for drug trafficking.
He later appealed against both his conviction and sentence, but the Court of Appeal dismissed his case on Mar. 27, 2019, upholding the capital punishment imposed.
Singapore authorities stated that he was represented by legal counsel throughout the trial and appeal process, and that Lingkesvaran was accorded full due process under the law.
Following the dismissal of his appeal in 2019, Lingkesvaran was involved in eight post-appeal legal applications, all of which were either resolved or dismissed, according to the authorities.
His petitions for clemency to Singapore’s President were also unsuccessful.
In the days before his execution, Lingkesvaran’s lawyer filed a civil suit on Feb. 9, 2026, alleging wrongful acts or neglect by public officers within the Singapore Prison Service.
His counsel also sought a stay of execution pending the outcome of the civil proceedings.
However, the Court of Appeal rejected the application, and the execution proceeded as scheduled.
The authorities said there were no pending legal proceedings that would affect the conviction or sentence, and the death penalty was carried out in accordance with the law.
