The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has confirmed that a further 13 Kurdish citizens were killed during Iran’s ongoing protests, bringing the verified Kurdish death toll to at least 45 since the start of the demonstrations.
The latest fatalities were recorded in the provinces of Ilam, Tehran, Alborz, Markazi, Kermanshah and Isfahan, according to information gathered from multiple sources in Iran.
Those killed are Golaleh Mahmoudi-Azar, Zahra Moradi, Erfan Alizadeh, Pouya Rostami, Keyvan Rezaei, Hossein Shirkoul, Siavash Shirzad, Rebin Moradi, Ardeshir Zarei, Ali Abbasi, Seyyed Milad Hosseini, Mohammad Seydi and Amir-Ali Jalilian.
Jalilian, a 65-year-old man from Eslamabad-e Gharb, was left in a coma after being shot multiple times in the head and body with pellets during protests on 8 January. He died in hospital on 14 January from the severity of his injuries.
Seven of the protesters were killed during protests in Tehran on 8 January: Erfan Alizadeh (24) from Lumar in Ilam Province; Zahra Moradi from Bukan; Golaleh Mahmoudi-Azar (28) from Mahabad; Siavash Shirzad from Bukan; Rebin Moradi (17), a footballer with the Saipa youth team from Salas-e Babajani; Seyyed Milad Hosseini, a Kurdish Yarsan citizen; and Ali Abbasi (18) from Gilan-e Gharb.
Several families were forced to pay up to 10 billion rials to receive the bodies of their relatives, and most funerals were held under heavy security pressure and surveillance in the protesters’ hometowns.
In some cases, families were threatened and coerced into blaming the protesters for the deaths.
Ardeshir Zarei, a Kurdish Yarsan citizen from Dalahu and a Saveh resident, was shot dead by security forces during protests in Saveh on 12 January. His funeral is taking place today, 15 January, in Darvit village in the Goran district of Dalahu.
Hossein Shirkoul, from Zarrinabad in Dehloran, was killed by live ammunition fired by security forces during protests in Isfahan on 9 January. His body was handed over five days later, and he was buried in his hometown on 14 January.
According to a source in Kermanshah, Keyvan Rezaei, a Kurdish Yarsan citizen, was killed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during protests on 8 January.
Mohammad Seydi, originally from Sarpol-e Zahab and a resident of Karaj, was killed by security forces during protests in Karaj on 9 January. No confirmed information has yet been obtained about the return of his body or his burial.
Additionally, an informed source in Ilam informed KHRN that Pouya Rostami, from the village of Kolom (Kolah Kabud) in Ilam, was also killed after being shot by security forces during protests in the city.
According to information confirmed by KHRN sources, at least 45 Kurdish citizens have been killed across Iran since the protests began. However, due to the scale of the crackdown, widespread killings, internet shutdowns, and severe restrictions on communication with Iran, this figure only reflects verified cases. The true death toll is believed to be significantly higher.
