January 9, 2026 - IRAN. Hengaw Report: 13 people killed on January 8 and 9 in Tehran

Setayesh Shafiei, Ahmad Ebadi Kamand, Ali Anbarestani, Arash Behfar, Ata Ebrahimpour, Amirali Kiani, Hassan Shakhesi, Daniel Maranki, Mohammad Entezami, Amir Mohammad Yazdani, Arash Yazdani, Mohammad Mohammadi-Mohab, Ali Rezaei.

At least thirteen people, including one woman, were killed during public protests in Tehran after being shot directly by forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has identified the victims as Setayesh Shafiei, Ahmad Ebadi Kamand, Ali Anbarestani, Arash Behfar, Ata Ebrahimpour, Amirali Kiani, Hassan Shakhesi, Daniel Maranki, Mohammad Entezami, Amir Mohammad Yazdani, Arash Yazdani, Mohammad Mohammadi-Mohab, and Ali Rezaei.

According to information received by Hengaw, Arash Behfar, a resident of Tehran’s Nezamabad neighborhood, was killed by direct gunfire from government forces on the evening of January 9, 2026, during protests in the area.

Setayesh Shafiei (20) was killed on January 8, 2026, after being shot with live ammunition by government forces during protests in Tehran.

On the same day, Ahmad Ebadi Kamand (44) and Ali Anbarestani (37), both from Sabzevar in Razavi Khorasan Province, were killed during protests in Tehran’s Moshiriyeh and Narmak neighborhoods, respectively.

Ata Ebrahimpour (42), a married man and father of two daughters, aged one and seven, was also killed during protests in the Haft-Hoz area of Tehran on January 8.

Hengaw has further verified the identities of eight additional individuals killed by direct gunfire from government forces during the widespread crackdown in Tehran on January 8 and 9. According to confirmed information, Mohammad Entezami, Amir Mohammad Yazdani, Arash Yazdani, and Daniel Maranki were killed by live ammunition in the Narmak area.

Two others—Amirali Kiani and Hassan Shakhesi—were killed during protests in Tehranpars. An exclusive video obtained by Hengaw, recorded minutes after the killing of Amirali Kiani, shows that he was shot from behind, with the bullet striking the back of his head.

Hengaw has also confirmed the identity of Ali Rezaei, another protester killed during the same events. A video reviewed by Hengaw shows the transfer of his body for burial amid a large public gathering, with mourners chanting slogans including “Death to Khamenei.”

Mohammad Mohammadi-Mohab is another individual killed during the protests. According to video evidence obtained by Hengaw, his family retrieved his body from the Kahrizak morgue.
