In a robbery and rape case, Saiful Islam Rafique, alias Saidul Islam Rafique, 50, was condemned to death. He was from the hamlet of Malti Nagar Namapara in the upazila of Sadar in the district of Bogra. Dr. Khairuzzaman, a civil surgeon in Gazipur, verified the convict's death. The robbery and rape complaint was filed with the Bogra Police Station in 2004 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. In the case, the trial court condemned Saiful to death. He later appealed the judgement to the High Court and subsequently filed a review petition. When his plea was denied in court, he petitioned the president for compassion.
