BELARUS. SUPREME COURT IMPOSES DEATH SENTENCE ON POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF MURDER
May 22, 2007: the Supreme Court of Belarus imposed a death sentence on Alyaksandr Syarheychyk, a company chief with the Hrodna District Office of the interior ministry's Guard Department, according to sources with the Supreme Court. Syarhychyk was convicted of six brutal murders, concealing a murder that had been committed by another person, as well as of counts of rape, theft of government and private property, malicious hooliganism, illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives and psychotropic substances, and several other offenses.
