SUDAN: SEVEN PEOPLE SENTENCED TO DEATH IN SOUTH DARFUR

Seven people were sentenced to death on 27 January 2020 by a court in Nyala, South Darfur, after being found guilty of killing nine people in September 2017, in the area of Tobasi, 43km south of Nyala. (Sources: darfur24.com, 28/01/2020)
The trial, which started in November 2017, lasted 25 sessions, before the judge finally issued a verdict convicting seven people and acquitting one.
The defendants were accused of attacking local residents in a market in the area of Tombasi, south Darfur, killing nine people.
Arrest warrants had been issued and the security forces managed to apprehend the offenders and bring them to trial.
