PAKISTAN: 15 DEATH ROW PRISONERS HANGED IN VARIOUS CITIES

April 21, 2015: At least fifteen death row convicts were sent to the gallows in different jails of the country, the highest number of executions on a single day since reversing of the country's self-imposed moratorium on the death penalty in December 2014 after the Taliban school massacre. Since then, at least 91 people, including twenty-two convicted terrorists, have been executed across the country.
Three men were hanged in Faisalabad. Two of them were executed at the Central Jail. Nizam Din had killed three people, including a woman, in a gun attack in Peoples Colony on 2 October 1998, while Muhammad Yaseen opened fire on his opponents killing three of a family including a woman in 1998. Another prisoner was hanged at the District Jail. Muhammad Azam, was found guilty of killing seven people including mother-in-law and father-in-law in 2004.
A death row inmate, Raja Raees, was hanged in Rawalpindi’s Adiyala Jail, while the execution of another two convicts was postponed. The execution of Sarfraz Ahmed was temporarily deferred to 27 April after the heirs of the convict appealed to the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench stating that efforts are being made to reach an agreement with the heirs of the victim. Another convict, Shakeel Ahmed, who was sentenced to death for murdering his wife Raheela Bibi in July 2000, was to be executed. However, his brother claimed he had reached an agreement with the mother of the victim and the deed for the agreement would soon be handed over to the jail authorities.
Three more death row inmates were executed in the Central Jail of Gujranawala. Anayat Ullah was found guilty of killing seven members of the same family in 2002 over a land dispute, while Zafar Iqbal and Muhammad Lateef jointly killed three people, including a woman, over a minor dispute in 1995.
Two people were sent to the gallows in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. Ghulam Nabi, resident of Sabzazar, was found guilty of killing a man in Muzand area of Lahore, while Allah Rakha of Kassur had killed a man in Mustafabad area in 1996.
Death row prisoner Azhar Mahmood was hanged at the District Jail in Gujrat. He had killed his opponent Shan in 1995.
Sahiwal’s Central Jail witnessed the execution of Liaquat Iqbal, who had killed a man during a domestic dispute in 1998.
Sultan alias Raja was hanged in Multan’s District Jail. He was found guilty of killing his opponent in 2002.
Two more prisoners were sent to the gallows in the district jail of Sialkot. Luqman and Salim had killed a 14-year-old girl after raping her in 1999.
A convict named Riaz Ahmed was also hanged for murder in Quetta's Mach jail. He had killed Taj Muhammad during a robbery attempt in Turbat area of Kech district on 4 September 2004. (Sources: Dunya News/thenews.com.pk/arynews.tv/92 News/dawn.com, Hands Off Cain, 21/04/2015)
