Two ‘protesters’
The Iranian Judiciary has sentenced Kaveh Arabiyan and Ali Daneshparvar, two detainees arrested during the January protests in Yazd, to death. Both men are currently imprisoned in Yazd Central Prison. The death sentences were issued on the basis of forced confessions obtained under torture.
According to information received by Hengaw, a death sentence issued by Branch One of the Yazd Revolutionary Court was recently communicated to the two prisoners. Ali Daneshparvar, 33, and Kaveh Arabiyan, 35, a father of one, both from Yazd, were each sentenced to death on charges of “waging war against God” (moharebeh).
Judicial and security authorities have alleged that Arabiyan “set fire to public property with the intent to disrupt national security,” while Daneshparvar was accused of “killing a member of the state forces and acting with the intent to disrupt security.” These allegations are based on a case fabricated by security agencies during the January protests.
During their detention in a facility operated by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Yazd, both men were subjected to severe physical and psychological torture in an effort to extract forced confessions and compel them to accept the charges brought against them. Daneshparvar spent approximately three months in solitary confinement under intensive interrogation, while Arabiyan was held in solitary confinement for 68 days.
Daneshparvar was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces on Friday, January 9, 2026, and Arabiyan was detained three days later, on Monday, January 12, amid a nationwide crackdown on protesters. Following months of detention and interrogation, both men were transferred to the general ward of Yazd Central Prison, where they remain imprisoned.
