January 20, 2026 - IRAN. Identification of 6 victims in Tehran

Mani Safarpour, Alireza Rahimi, Amirhossein Sohrabi, Erfan Abdipour, Omid Fadakar, and Mohammad Nobakht.

According to information Hengaw received on January 20, Mohammad Nobakht, an 18-year-old resident of Qods neighbourhood in Tehran, died in hospital on January 16, 2026, after spending eight days in a coma. He had been critically injured by live ammunition fired by government forces during protests, sustaining severe internal injuries, including damage to his stomach and kidneys.

A relative told Hengaw that Nobakht was shot in the abdomen during protests on January 9, leaving him severely wounded and unconscious. He later succumbed to the extent of his internal injuries.

Amirhossein Sohrabi, a 21-year-old resident of Tehran, was killed after being shot by government forces during protests in the city on January 11, 2026. A source close to him said he had been working at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar since the age of 18 and was shot near his workplace.

Omid Fadakar, a 30-year-old resident of Eslamshahr in Tehran Province, was critically injured after being shot with live ammunition during protests in the area on January 10. He later died in hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
According to Hengaw's latest information, Fadakar’s body has not yet been handed over to his family.

Erfan Abdipour, a resident of Tehran, was shot dead during protests in the Sadeghiyeh neighborhood of Tehran on January 9, 2026, near the Goldis complex and close to the Shahr-e Ziba and Dehkadeh taxi stations. Reports confirm that he was shot in the heart with live ammunition by a government sniper positioned on top of the Goldis building.

A source told Hengaw that Abdipour was taken to Ibn Sina Hospital by a friend after being shot. However, his family searched for him throughout the night and only learned of his death after seeing images from the morgue. The following morning, four family members went to Kahrizak to retrieve his body and spent hours searching among other bodies, examining more than 1,500 body covers before identifying him. He was buried on January 10, in Section 329 of the cemetery.

Hengaw has also learned that Mani Safarpour, a 26-year-old Gilak originally from Lahijan in Gilan Province and a resident of Tehran, was killed after being shot with live ammunition by government forces during protests in the Salsabil neighborhood of Tehran.

On the same day, Alireza Rahimi, a 26-year-old resident of Tehran, was killed during protests in the Third Square of Tehranpars after being shot directly by government forces with live ammunition.
