January 4, 2026 - IRAN. Hengaw: at least 17 people killed during the first week of protests

At least 17 people have been killed during the first week of protests in Iran, according to information verified by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights. Hengaw has confirmed the identities of those killed amid the recent protests in Malekshahi, Hamedan, Harsin, Nurabad (Delfan), Kuhdasht, Azna, Lordegan, Fuladshahr, and Marvdasht, across the provinces of Kermanshah (Kermashan), Lorestan, Hamedan, Fars, Ilam, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Isfahan.

Hengaw has also received reports of at least six additional deaths that remain under review by its verification team and will be made public if confirmed.

State-affiliated media have reported that two people were killed in Qom, including one 17-year-old. Their identities are still being investigated.

Of the 17 confirmed victims, at least nine were Lor and seven were Kurdish, including one from the Yarsan religious minority. One Persian resident was also killed in Hamedan.
