Iranian authorities carried out the execution of Sedigheh Ghorbani, a 29-year-old Kurdish woman.
According to information received by Hengaw, the execution was carried out at dawn on December 13, 2025, inside Urmia Central Prison. Ghorbani was from the village of Gug Tappeh, located in the Tanakari area of Urmia.
The Chief Justice of Urmia announced the implementation of the execution order but did not disclose the woman’s identity.
Ghorbani was arrested two years earlier in connection with the killing of her stepdaughter, Ava Ghahramani, and was sentenced to death on the charge of murder.
Ava Ghahramani, four years old, the daughter of Omar and Mina Hosseinzadeh from the Kotoul area of Khoy, was transferred to Motahhari Hospital in Urmia after suffering severe physical abuse by her stepmother. She remained hospitalized in the intensive care unit for 11 days before dying from severe cerebral hemorrhage.
According to data recorded by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (Wncri), with the execution of Sediqeh Ghorbani, the number of women executed in Iran since the beginning of the 2025 calendar year has risen to 59. According to the same source, at least 322 women have been executed in Iran since 2007.
