Ronny Walker, 48, Black, has received the death penalty.
On Tuesday, a jury issued a guilty verdict against Ronny Walker, and on Friday (June 27) recommended a death sentence, and the judge agreed with their decision.
The body of 14-year-old Nilexia Alexander, Black, a runaway from Temple Terrace, was found on May 6, 2022. Prosecutors said Walker picked up the girl in his car early that morning in Tampa’s Belmont Heights neighborhood. He was accused of shooting her in the same car later that day and dumping her body in the street.
A new Florida law enacted in 2023 allows a jury to recommend death if at least 8 of the jurors agree on the death sentence.
However, because the girl’s death occurred before the law was enacted, the decision was required to be unanimous.
