January 19, 2026 - IRAN. Seven more women identified among those killed

Maedeh Moradikya, Arezu Abedi, Ghazal Aghaei Lindi, Farzaneh Tavakoli, Mona Hosseini, Sonia Salehirad, Nastaran Zaremanesh

According to information Hengaw obtained on January 19,

- Maedeh Moradikya, a 22 year old resident of Tehran, was fatally shot in the head by Iranian government forces during protests in the Sattarkhan district of Tehran on January 9. Informed sources stated that she had been married only a few months before she was killed.

- Arezu Abedi, a 50 year old athlete and fitness trainer from Isfahan, was shot in the head by Iranian government forces during protests on Bagh Daryacheh Street on January 9. Hengaw has learned that she was married, the mother of two children, and active in sports and mountaineering.

- Ghazal Aghaei Lindi, aged 28, originally from the village of Alasht in Savadkuh County, Mazandaran Province, and residing in Qaleh Hassan Khan, Tehran, was killed by government forces during protests in that area on January 9.

- Farzaneh Tavakoli, a woman from Arak and the mother of two children, was killed after being shot by government forces during protests in the city on January 9.

- Mona Hosseini, a 57 year old radiology specialist, was shot in the face by Iranian government forces in Malek Shahr, Isfahan, and later died from her injuries at Gharazi Hospital after being transferred there on January 8. Hengaw has learned that her daughter and son in law, who were accompanying her at the time, were also wounded and remain under intensive medical care.

Iranian authorities pressured Hosseini’s family to bury her as a “martyr” in the martyrs’ section of Bagh Rezvan Cemetery, but her husband refused the request.

- Sonia Salehirad, aged 34 and from Shiraz, was shot in the head by Iranian government forces during protests on Sadra Street on January 8.

- Nastaran Zaremanesh, a young woman from Tehran, was killed by government forces during protests in the Naziabad district of Tehran on January 8. She was struck by two bullets to the neck and heart. Hengaw has learned that she was married and the mother of two children.

With these newly verified cases, the total number of women killed during the protests has risen to 33.
