BANGLADESH: SEVEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER
March 30, 2015: A Dhaka court sentenced to death seven people, including a listed criminal, and life term imprisonment to one for killing a Swechhchhasebak League leader in capital's Mirpur area in 2006.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal handed down the verdict.
The seven convict are--Md Shahdat, a listed criminal, Md Mintu, Md Masudur Rahman alias Totla Masud, Mahmudur Rahman alias Sohel, Liton Hossain alias Lotas, Md Noman Ibn Basad alias Babu and Md Hasan Sarwar alias Ziku.
Another one fugitive convict who awarded life term is--Jahanara. The court also fined Tk 20,000 to Jahanara. Â
According to the prosecution, on August 15, 2006, Moniruddin Manu was shot dead by the criminals in front of his house in capital's Mirpur area in the afternoon.
