IRAN: “AN EYE FOR AN EYE” PUNISHMENT UNDER SHARIA CARRIED OUT KARAJ
March 2, 2015: A man who was not identified by name was blinded in the left eye in the Rajaishahr prison of Karaj as part of “an eye for an eye” punishment for an acid attack, Hamshahri newspaper reported.
It is not known whether the blinding was conducted by the medical staff or by the offended.
The prisoner was convicted of pouring acid on the face of another man, leading to blindness in both eyes. He was sentenced to blindness in both eyes, payment of “Diyeh” (blood money) and 10 years in prison. Blindness of the right eye was postponed according to the report.
