TEXAS (USA): LISA ANN COLEMAN EXECUTED
September 17, 2014: Lisa Ann Coleman, 38, Black, was executed in Taxas.
She had been sentenced to death on June 21, 2006 (see) for her role in the July 26, 2004 starving death of 9-year-old Davontae Williams, son of Coleman's long-time girlfriend, Marcella Williams. The boy had died from malnutrition and pneumonia and weighed just 35 pounds, court records said. He had been beaten with a golf club and bound by an extension cord, investigators found. Marcella Williams, now 33, in 2006 pleaded guilty to capital murder, and was sentenced to life in prison. She will have to serve at least 40 years before becoming eligible for parole. Coleman was the second woman executed in the United States this year and the 15th since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Coleman becomes the 9th inmate to be put to death in Texas this year, the 517th overall since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982, the 30th inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1389th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
