VIETNAM: OTTO MONTAGNARD CONDANNATI PER AVER 'MINATO L’UNITA’ NAZIONALE'

May 29, 2013: un tribunale del Vietnam ha condannato otto Montagnard affiliati a una chiesa cattolica non registrata a pene che vanno dai tre agli undici anni di carcere per aver "minato l'unità nazionale".
Il tribunale della Provincia di Gia Lai ha detto che alcuni degli otto avevano operato insieme a un'organizzazione fuorilegge in esilio per stabilire uno Stato indipendente delle popolazioni indigene che abitano gli altipiani centrali. Gli altri sono stati accusati di aver incitato migliaia di persone a manifestare contro il loro trasferimento dal loro villaggio per far posto a una centrale elettrica nel 2008.
Gli otto, di età compresa tra i 32 e i 73 anni, sono stati condannati in base all'articolo 87 del codice penale, una norma di sicurezza nazionale che vieta di "minare la politica di unità [nazionale]" attraverso la "semina di divisione" o l’odio etnico o religioso.
Media statali vietnamiti hanno identificato gli otto condannati come Runh, Byuk, Jonh, Dinh Hron e Dinh Lu, originari della Provincia di Gia Lai e A Hyum, A Tach e Y Gyin, della Provincia di Kon Tum.
La Vietnam News Agency ha riportato che, secondo l'accusa, nel 2002, Y Gyin “aveva diffuso voci" che la Vergine Maria era apparsa ad Ha Mon, dove le autorità stavano progettando di costruire una centrale idroelettrica. Gli altri si erano uniti a lui “seducendo” migliaia di persone nella protesta contro l'impianto nel 2008 e, nello stesso anno, A Hyum avrebbe contattato una presunta organizzazione separatista armata in esilio – il Fronte per la Liberazione dei Popoli Oppressi (FULRO) – chiedendo il suo aiuto.
Il Vietnam ha affermato che i gruppi umanitari che operano sulle questioni relative agli altipiani centrali sono parte di un movimento separatista in corso legato al FULRO, affermazioni respinte con forza da tali gruppi, che rivendicano invece il metodo nonviolento nella difesa dei diritti umani.
Secondo Human Rights Watch, Runh, Jonh e Byuk sono stati arrestati nel maggio 2012 per essersi associati al gruppo cattolico non registrato Ah Mon, fondato da Y Gyin intorno al 1999 e dipinto dalle autorità vietnamite come una "falsa religione" che viene usata dal FULRO per minare la sicurezza nazionale. Mentre i Montagnard protestanti hanno affrontato la repressione religiosa per molti anni, i Montagnard cattolici sono diventati un obiettivo della persecuzione da parte del governo più recentemente.
