INDONESIA: 87 PEOPLE ON DEATH ROW
December 29, 2011: Indonesia has 87 people on death row, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry reported. Sihabuddin, the ministryâs director general of prisons, said 50 of the inmates were drug convicts. He added that the ministry was working with the Supreme Court to carry out the executions.
Because of the long delays in scheduling the executions, Sihabuddin said, there were inmates who had been on death row for up to 40 years. He added that there was also one death row inmate whose sentence had been commuted to life in prison. (Sources: Jakarta Globe, 29/12/2011)
