EGYPT: 24 DEATH SENTENCES CONFIRMED
June 13, 2009: the court in Damanhur, Egypt, confirmed the death sentence given to 24 people on May 18, 2009, over the massacre of 11 people.
Today’s decision by the court followed confirmation of the death sentence by the Mufti of Egypt.
The slaughter was confirmed to be part of a feud between two families, about 80 kilometres north of Cairo, towards Alexandria.
Called the ‘massacre of Wadi al Faregh’ by the press (the location where the massacre occurred), the incident dated back to March 2008 and started over a land dispute. (Sources: ANSA, 13/06/2009)
