FINLAND SIGNS NEW EXTRADITION AGREEMENT WITH US
December 11, 2007: Finland has signed a new extradition agreement with the United States, the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE said.
According to the new agreement, extradition is still not possible for minor crimes. The crime must have a maximum potential prison sentence of at least one year in both Finland and the United States. Exceptions include some tax fraud and customs violations.
In addition, Finland can still refuse to hand over a suspect of any nationality if it believes he or she might face the death penalty.
