BOTSWANA. TSOBANE SENTENCED TO DEATH
November 19, 2007: Justice Modiri Letsididi sentenced a man to death in Gaborone, Botswana, for murdering a child. 45 year old former Francistown City Council driver Kedisaletse Tsobane confessed to killing his 10 year old daughter Kgotso Macfallen by strangling her with an electric cable on January 20, 2004 in Francistown. In his ruling, Justice Letsididi noted that Tsobane had not been candid before the court. The child's mother had died in 2002, the justice noting Tsobane was under legal obligation to maintain the deceased. 'I am of the view that that he intended to rid himself of the problem by killing the deceased. He drove with the deceased to the bush and strangled her to look as if she had committed suicide. 'On the circumstance, aggravating features far outweighs extenuating circumstances in this case.' 'The court is forced to impose the provisions of section 203 (1) of the penal code.
