INDIA. TWO SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KIDNAPPING
June 5, 2007: a court here has awarded death sentence to two persons in connection with kidnapping of two farmers.
A fast track court, headed by additional district and sessions judge Jagannath Ray, yesterday found Ashok Yadav and Ram Bahadur Ram guilty of kidnapping two farmers and awarded capital punishment to them.
Two young farmers, Amar Kumar Singh and Ravikant Chaubey, were kidnapped on the night of November 23, 2004 from village Nateyan under Kudra police station in Bihar's Kaimur district while they were irrigating their agricultural fields.
Later, on December 5, 2004, the kidnapped farmers were rescued from a nearby village.
Public prosecutor in the case Ram Narayan Ram told The Telegraph: âThe court has delivered an exceptional order under IPC provision of 364 (A), which pertains to kidnapping for ransom and provides for either death penalty or life sentence.â (Sources: Chennaionline.com, Telegraph, 06/06/2007)
