BANGLADESH. FIVE PEOPLE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR MURDER
January 30, 2006: a court in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, sentenced five people to death and one to life imprisonment for the murder of a schoolboy. Those sentenced to death were Salam, Shah Jalal Roni, Jahangir alias Black Jahangir, Al Amin, and Sabuj alias Hanif. They were also fined Tk 50 thousand each. Sabuj and Roni were tried in absentia. According to the prosecution, Jewel was killed after being dragged out of his house on September 12, 2004, as a result of an ongoing argument âover a love affair".
"The assailants sliced Jewel's body, stuffed the body parts in sacks and then dumped them into a ditch," said a court ruling. (Sources: United News of Bangladesh Limited, 30/01/2006)
