CHINA. POP SINGER’S BROTHER EXECUTED FOR HEROIN SMUGGLING
June 26, 2005: the brother of Taiwan pop singer Yu Tien and a further seven Taiwanese were executed by Chinese authorities for drug-related cases to mark international anti-drugs day. Another Taiwanese arrested at the same time was given a life sentence after showing signs of good behavior after two years of imprisonment. Yu Tien's brother, Yu Fu-hsing, who was caught by the Chinese authorities smuggling heroin a few years previously was executed by lethal injection. Yu Tien had arranged for his brother's ashes to be taken from China to the family grave in Taiwan. An investigation from China's highest court found that Yu Fu-hsing was part of a drug gang operating out of Hsimen and smuggled heroin from Burma to Taiwan. (Sources: The China Post, 27/06/2005)
