17 February 2020 :

Tulare County Jury recommends death sentence for Hernan Rodriguez, 29, Hispanic. A Visalia jury recommended that Rodriguez be put to death for the May 20, 2015 double murder of 2 men. Rodriguez approached coworkers on May 20, 2015, during lunch and used a sawed-off 9mm semi-automatic rifle wrapped in duct tape, and fired 7 rounds in rapid succession at 6 men seated on the ground. Cirilo Renteria Rodriguez, 57, died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head, the DA’s Office said. Carlos Eliseo Sanchez, 65, was rushed to the hospital, where he lost brain activity after a day and was taken off life support about 2 weeks later. A 60-year-old victim was shot through the stomach and arm, and miraculously survived multiple surgeries and over 3 months in the hospital. Rodriguez immediately fled but was taken into custody a short time later by Dinuba Police and Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies. He is slated to be sentenced on April 17.
