27 April 1999 :

On April 27, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence imposed on Thawee Phuttachan, 42, a former Chiang Rai MP, for having paid, between December 1994 and April 1996, people to kill Saengchai Sunthornwat, director of the Mass Communications Organization of Thailand. Outside court, Mr Saengchai's widow said justice had been done and thanked the legal system, the people and the media. "Without them, we would never have seen this day," said Mrs Watcharee, who had forgiven Thawee. "We've fought all along in pursuit of justice."
