A Guinean trader was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court in Malaysia after he was found guilty of trafficking in 972.8gm of Methamphetamine drug two years ago.
Judge Noor Azian Shaari handed down the sentence after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing the case beyond reasonable doubts against Camara Mamoudou, 33.
In the judgment, Noor Azian said the story told by the accused in his defence was unreasonable and illogical.
She said in the defence, Mamoudou claimed he was asked by one Anthony, a man he met at the Cotonou Airport in Benin, to hand over a black jacket to a person by the name of Ogboona in Malaysia.
Mamoudo also told the court that he did not know about the drug in the jacket.
Noor Azian said the court could also not accept the claim by the accused that he was an innocent carrier because he had the opportunity to check the jacket and the option to bring the jacket to Malaysia or not.
Mamoudou was charged with trafficking the drug at the exit passage of the Customs inspection counter at Level 3 of the KL International Airport (KLIA) Main Terminal Building (MTB), Sepang, about 3.45pm on Nov 20, 2011.
The drug was found in a black jacket he was carrying.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Asyraf Md Kamal prosecuted, while Mamoudo was represented by lawyer Geethan Ram Vincent.
