Mohammad Ghobadlou appeal against the death sentence rejected.
Mohammad Ghobadlou, 22, the son of Mohammad Ali, is one of those arrested in the 2022 nationwide protests. He was accused of “corruption in the world through extensive action against police officers by hitting a car and killing the (Master Sergeant) Farid Karampour Hasanvand.” And injuring 5 other police officers.
Yesterday morning, Saturday, December 24, the Judiciary News Agency (Mizan) announced that the death sentence of Mohammad Qabadlo and Saman Seidi (Yasin) was overturned by the Supreme Court. Amir Raisian, Mr. Ghobadlou’s defense lawyer, also confirmed the suspension of his client’s death sentence by publishing an article on his personal page. However, hours later, this news agency, quoting the public relations of the Supreme Court, denied the news of the suspension of the death sentence of Mohammad Ghobadlou and wrote that his sentence has been confirmed.
The court session of Mohammad Ghobadlou was held on Saturday, December 10th in Tehran Criminal Court in completely unfair conditions.
An informed source in this regard told the Iranian Human Rights Society. “Mohammad Ghobadlou was tried in an unfair court. And he was sentenced to death without the presence of selected defense lawyers in a short trial.
The case of Mohammad Ghobadlou has many defects. According to his family’s statement, Mohammad has bipolar disorder. And during the court session, due to the lack of medication, he was not in a normal state, and not able to defend himself. And psychiatrist of the forensic organization said in hostile statements in the court session that he knew what he was doing. While his previous medical records indicated his lack of mental health, the documents of which are also available.
Also, in this regard, Mohammad Ghobadlou himself said in his defense. “At the time of the incident, I had not taken my medicine for two months. And I hadn’t slept for three nights, and I was angry and irritated by the videos I saw on the internet.”
