IRAN. MINOR SENTENCED TO HANG

03 October 2006 :

a 17 year old boy was sentenced to death in Iran for murder, the Etemad daily reported.
The boy, identified only as Behzad, confessed to stabbing his victim, another minor, during a riot in Tehran. However, as there were two different stab wounds on the victim and more people involved in the riot, responsibility for the murder has not been established appropriately, Behzad said.
As part of human rights talks with the Islamic Republic in the last few years, human rights organisations and the European Union have asked that Iran put a stop to the execution of minors or those who were minors at the time of the crime.
Newspapers also reported on two other death sentences issued on the same day: a 25 year old woman, Fatemeh, convicted of killing her lover with her husband’s help and another man identified as Behzad for the assault and murder of two women.
