11 September 2008 :

a teacher was executed for raping or molesting 39 female primary school pupils in northwestern Gansu Province, China. Luo Yanlin, who worked at three primary schools in Jingning County, was convicted of raping or molesting the girls aged between seven and 14 years between 1988 and 2006, according to a newspaper based in Gansu's provincial capital of Lanzhou. Luo forced or lured the children into his dormitory or office under the pretext of tutoring them before assaulting them, the report said. Luo raped several of the girls over the same period and raped one repeatedly through six years of primary schooling. Luo's crimes were uncovered on August 14, 2006, when two former victims, both of whom were college students then, reported their assaults to the police. One of them surnamed Zhang told police the teacher had raped them more than 10 times when they were aged only 12. A week later Luo was arrested and charged with raping and molesting children. He was sentenced to death on July 4 last year. Luo appealed to the Gansu Province Higher People's Court which rejected his appeal and applied to the Supreme People's Court for the death penalty.
