A draft amendment bill to change the method of execution...

18 December 2001 :

A draft amendment bill to change the method of execution from shooting to lethal injection is ready to go before parliament for approval.
Siwa Saengmanee, the Corrections Department chief, said that once the bill becomes law lethal injection will be launched first at the Bang Kwang Maximum Security Prison, followed by Nakhon Si Thammarat's Central Prison and Klong Pai Prison in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Siwa said the interior minister has instructed him to launch a campaign to educate the public about lethal injection. There appeared to be a misconception that lethal injection might not be wholly effective and his department has been ordered to correct that, Siwa said.
The corrections chief said relatives of the prisoner to be executed by lethal injection might also be allowed to witness the execution.
